OVERVIEW

Located in the heart of Cappadocia on the site of an ancient monastery in Old Uçhisar Village, the Argos has been speactacularly restored from the remains of historical underground tunnels and caves that were once used as human dwellings.

Envisioned by master architect Turgut Cansever, the hotel’s 34 rooms are connected by gorgeously landscaped gardens and spread across four different mansions designed in different styles. Each opens onto a garden, balcony or terrace and the room sizes range from 20-50 square meters up to a whopping 120 square meters.

One thing’s for sure – whatever room you choose it will have plenty of character. All are appointed with luxurious furnishings, intimate nooks carved from dramatic stone walls and floors overlaid with ornate rugs. Candles and other accoutrements create a warm, homey atmosphere and if you’re lucky you’ll get views across the volcanic rock face of Dove Valley and its terraced vineyards.

In the evenings, the hotel restaurant is a striking place to dine, either amidst the stone arches inside or on the terrace. The food, a mix of traditional and international, is excellent and the wines are produced from the surrounding vineyards. You can enjoy some board games or the occasional music recital in the lounge, which also has an inside and outside area.

If you fancy exploring the area, you won’t go wrong with a visit to Uçhisar Castle, a fairy tale structure that rises graciously above Cappadocia and features numerous hollowed-out containers and rock tombs – a very suitable side trip for such a romantic getaway.
